The choir of rain (listening to) wondering...... can a mere mortal head this harkening? while sycamores repose in dreamthought, i awaken to their nocturnal longings, becoming disheartened (as of late) as to whether something so devine can come to frution for seconds longer than these semicharmed branches, who inevitably relinquish their glorious coats of the nightstorm. The Sycamore long ago recognized by the characters of its flowers and fruit, not to mention the arrangement and veining of its leaves, as a Maple, and correctly named accordingly the Great Maple, the remarkable denseness of its foliage, and the grateful shade which it in consequence affords, caused it to be confused in Western Europe, at an early period, with the true Sycamore, or Fig Mulberry (Ficus Sycamorus) of scripture, a confusion which it is stated is still retained in the language of flowers, according to which mystic code of symbolism this tree signifies "curiosity," because it is identified with that on which Zaccheus climbed that he might see Christ at His triumphal entry into Jerusalem. And your poem does justice, as the title implies. Wonderful write, I think one of your very best. Wisdom in your words. The "epiphany of the sycamores" is not so "temporary" as you have sustained their symphony through your glorious writing! You truly are a 'goddessa poetessa'. ![]() "while sycamores repose in dreamthought, i awaken to their nocturnal longings," ~ I second my previous comment! Warm hug coming your way, EA ![]() |
