She was calm and majestic, imposing and free As her magic imparted its soliloquy. In those last mellow beams of the day’s dying sun It seemed that creation and I were at one. To the oncoming night, so the sun bowed her praise In amber-gold homage, her last dappled rays Dipped in soft lapping vespers caressing my toes As the murmuring surf held my life in their throes. Beyond the horizon, the parting day passed; The night-rolling breath of the evening winds cast Their spell on the vast glassy face of the deep, Whose ripples applauded the night’s starry keep. ‘Neath the starlit umbrella I achingly wandered. The tide washed my footprints…my memory pondered On words long since uttered in anger and pain, Which, born in the sunshine, had died in the rain. And there, in the face and the voice of the sea It was as if time was suspended for me. I lifted my eyes to the heavens above And whispered a prayer for salvation… and love. Then I saw her again! In the twilight’s soft glow… As the touch of the warm wind surrounded me so That the shimmering wavelets which kiss and depart Brought her back to my memory … and into my heart. As her spirit embraced me, its smooth velvet glove Enfolded my soul, as the wings of a dove. She called to me softly, from out of the blue “As you have loved me… so have I loved you too”. Through my tears in the darkness, there came such emotion The light of redemption … the promised devotion! Its brilliance glowed in the depths of my soul And its fragments, long broken, again became whole. The voice of the ocean had rendered to me A timeless commandment, as old as the sea. It said “Those who would seek Me shall find it their due To love one another… as I have loved you”. It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness. |

Rod, Loved this, then I would, the sea has a fascination for me and like a mistress calls to me in a language that pulls at my soul. Ivor |
