The Best of You [To three poets who take me back…] ~*~ They swing me willingly along palm swayed zephyrs, tickling fancy they do, of bared shoulders reddening to cap off sandcapped knees… willing me to consume again coastlines, salt breezes, foaming ankles with memories, floating shells for me to hang a star on… she is the white wine laughter as deep as mine, but smelling of jasmine, he is the stranger turned dark by the sun, telling me… of things ascertained by rote… bringing back the ping of self pain for not having been born to celebrate the sun as I was meant to, but solsticing heavenward in winter’s climes good enough, I tell myself, to simply close mature eyes, remember 17 again, that one night on sandy shores in good dress and bared feet changing my life with a yes, finding no regret to have found surf sounds on prairie plains, to hear roaring waves in tumultuous skies, and cheat grass foaming my ankles with memories for what was ever before the memories had begun… but I bless my memory bringers, all the same… for the sunlined smiles they leave behind the trees that still need to be climbed, a hand to cheek knowing all will ever be well… unconditionally in heart, as much as in mind… ©Karilea Rilling Jungel 5 April 2002 |

If I didn't have more control, I'd be crying outloud by now...although, my eyes are filling up...this beautiful and most heartfelt poem, is one of the best I've read...because to me and for me, understanding this so well, and how so many words really do drive us home, yanno? Outstanding magnificant work dear lady this.... bringing back the ping of self pain for not having been born to celebrate the sun as I was meant to, but solsticing heavenward in winter’s climes this made me want to run up and hug you in a sobbing and somewhat embarrassing tears of joy... this... good enough, I tell myself, to simply close mature eyes, remember 17 again, that one night on sandy shores in good dress and bared feet changing my life with a yes, finding no regret to have found surf sounds on prairie plains, to hear roaring waves in tumultuous skies, and cheat grass foaming my ankles with memories oh my, this took me aback, as my grand-daughter would say...simply stunning happy memories... and this.... but I bless my memory bringers, all the same… for the sunlined smiles they leave behind the trees that still need to be climbed, a hand to cheek knowing all will ever be well… unconditionally in heart, as much as in mind… this from YOUR unconditional loving heart which speaks volumns about the love you've gained from reading...and you always remember to say, thank you in your comments.. my oh my, I've highlighted the entire poem haven't I? Oh well, I love it and you for bringing this home...thank you for such a loving caring heart and for this dedication to 3 tremendous poets. |

Very beautiful...all encompassing...and straight from your heart. A joy to read. Thank you so much! It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness. |

This poetry forces one into one's own memories and therefore, to me, is as fulfilling as poetry should be. As I tend to be word blind to free writing, it is exceptional for me to be carried on this form of poetry as this poem as succeeded in doing. It will probably force me to post something nostalgic... sorry, Ivor ([email protected]) |

laughing Lee did get it all and still I need to quote this again because it catches me up and tells me truth "good enough, I tell myself, to simply close mature eyes, remember 17 again, that one night on sandy shores in good dress and bared feet changing my life with a yes," ahhh Karilea that's soooo good |

Ohhhh my Sunshine-y friend I think this is going to be my favorite of all your work (though I can't promise that as I do love all of it, and you just keep bringing us more masterpieces!) It should be made into a print on beautiful paper, and hanging on walls everywhere. I can't pull a quote out because - LeeJ did it lol - and it is ALL so wonderful. {{{Hugs}}} Caroline He who wants a rose must respect the thorn. |
