TRUST Eye-to-eye conveyed, and in soft whispers of the evening brings delight To friends and lovers soaring on the wings of love’s true flight. Yet must the heart be wary should the shadow of betrayal once alight That turns the warmth of summer to the frozen heart of winter’s night. For what is trust? Intangible, yet by truth and deed alone she must be earned By spirit born, and sought by every heart which for love has ever yearned. There is no soul more deeply pierced, nor by the fires of hell severely burned Than that which gave its one true love completely, but had contempt returned. |
