What does it mean to “have a job”? Simple: you work for someone else so you can eat, have a house and perhaps a few other toys on the side but as long as it’s a “job” and not something you would do freely, something you would dedicate your life to because you like doing what you are doing and would not stop even if you had all the money in the world and no need ever to do this work, then you are a slave – to someone, or something: to individuals, corporations, governments even to your own business! The new slave doesn’t wear chains and is not driven with whips – too crude, too coarse and yes, too expensive to maintain slaves that way. It’s much easier to push them with a carrot on a stick: a paycheck. To force them to work at hated jobs paid as little as can be; treated as robots and morons (for the most part) and gotten rid of (retired, fired, laid-off) when they are no longer fast enough or pretty enough. Or their ass-kissing and loyalty no longer worth the cost of maintainance. |
