Soul Mate

Once pure, enthusiastic, honest,
knowing no greed, foreign to hate.
This soul stood alone,
searching for love and it’s mate.

The road ahead was rocky, cruel,
cheating and lying the way to survival.
Abuse, destruction, learn the lesson
follow it to the letter, stay in denial.

There will be no apology,
there will be no retribution,
in the name of love, trust and devotion.
There will never be forgiveness or absolution.

The soul remembers fear and lies.
Do you know the damage and the shame?
It remembers looking through innocent eyes.
Can you see the honesty and hold no blame?

It has come full circle from youths
innocence, troubled and torn,
from broken dreams and devastation
to maturity and wisdom, a mantle well worn.

I have come now to this place.
There is peace, resolution, tranquillity
and with you here my love, my soul mate,
our future bright,
I no longer fear obscurity.

is maturity.
