Most darling, delightful, delicious Dear: Why couldn't I tell you... why did I fear? With lips as red as maple's fall leaves-- hair as golden as tassels of corn; a beauty unmatched - to which my heart cleaves, Love spawned by knowledge - to which I was born. You came to me out of summer's bright glaze. My life was uplifted, bedeviled and torn--- My eyes were enhanced, to pierce through the haze--- I thanked my Creator for having me born. Summer we spent... in a riotous fling forgotten were cares, woes, and everyday life. Feelings engulfed us - made loving hearts sing - removed all the worries--- passion was rife. We loved and discovered a new "us" each day. Playing while sharing each other's great dreams. Time was abandoned - our contentment most gay--- but a garment poor-knitted--- falls apart at the seams. Our parting was pleasant, still loving, but sad. You "needed expansion" to broaden your mind. I was so callow - a mere stripling lad, I let you depart without knowing my find. As I sit and ponder - my life now is sere - Our summer remembered with longing and grief. Tears and desiring can't bring you back here - and Time, I've discovered--- is really a thief! |
