WHITE ELEPHANT

In the basement of your eyes
I find a void so dead & depleted
In the placement of your lies, I'm
left so beggarly and defeated

I just don't understand
the way you weave your hands
in & out of my temperaments
Yet still you demand
that we all rise & stand
before your stage-show benevolence

I can't feel what I think
in this disconcert you induce
What I need is a drink
to numb me to the slip of your noose

I'm so tired of this
white-elephant routine
Why do I only exist
when you're in between?
