How special to be loved so much
that from the air to land
a parent frowns concernedly
at life’s tumultuous ways
that tosses wisdom to the wolves
and feeds deep empathy
into the jaws of lions.

This is my life! I stand unmoved
but maybe I’m a fool
for dispensing my inheritance
before it’s even used.

And guilty, I am guilty,
of a silent "tut, tut-tut";
what can a mother/father know
of what I learnt so long ago
and then, of course, forgot?

But wisdom comes to fools
and love outlines empathy
when the feel of one unseen
strips the ego clean
and bares the heart and soul
of what we’ve always been.

To feel if not to see
and act accordingly
the manner and the means
of laughter for the free
but when will they celebrate
the coming out of me?
