To Bleed

Kills me inside
to see us falling
before we have even hit the ground.
How we exchange useless words
in non meaningful interactions.
How I bleed
as I watch us disintegrate
and know that I am powerless
to shelter us
from life itself.
I wonder if you see my shattered heart
if it moves you inside
or creates a reaction,
if it stirs something from deep within,
that makes you want to try
desperately
to pick up the pieces we left behind.
In the dead of the night
as silent tears stream down my face
I wonder
if you are hurting too
remembering how things used to be
and knowing
bitterly
that those feelings may never be recovered.
Or perhaps you will give up
and leave me with memories
of everything we couldn't put right,
leaving me alone and broken
in the wake of your shadow.
