From one small window I watch For ships or planes I watch for intruders For an enemy I don’t know From the sky they could come Or from the waters that are deceptively calm But can smash cliff walls and fishing boats With the anger of relentless waves I watch silently from my perch above the sea And only see beauty before me I hear peace I hear no planes I see no ships Families were moved from their islands And placed far away to a home that is no home I wonder if the elders are eating And I wonder if the children cry at night Sometimes, when I lie in the dark, I hear their sorrow I wonder as I wait and watch From this small window For ships or planes And I am homesick I just want to go home Alison |

Dear Alison, this was a very sensitive, poignant write and it feels really strange that back then when you posted it, it faded away without a comment! The coasts of the world show these sad signs of a time of war and all that it brought with it. Your window ponderings didn't fail to touch me deeply. Love, Margherita |
