Give my soul back to God?
Preposterous - some will exclaim.
Ridiculous - others will maintain.
Who cares? Would be another’s comment.
Why do such a thing? Why?

It’s a beautiful sunny day –
I’m walking silently in the high mountains
and my mind is full of thoughts:
Some pleasant, some deep and troubling
and that strange idea my friend brought up –
to give my soul back to God –
seems to haunt my every step.

What does that entail,
giving my soul back to God?
Well, what is a soul?
What purpose does it serve?
How would one go about this strange process
of returning the thing, anyway?

I have to assume that the soul
is man’s connection to God;
that it is “given” to man by God
but still belongs to God – no one else.
It’s God’s hidden mike and surveillance camera
into my very psyche.  A “bug”; a plant,
an implant, perhaps even a virus.
It is the guarantee that man will never cease
wondering about God,
in acceptance or rejection but never oblivious.
It is the guarantee that God – in whatever form
will always control man’s life and destiny.

That being said – and basically accepted –
all that remains is getting rid of this thing.
So I go to God (via the thing, of course)
and I state the obvious (He knows my thoughts)
and wait for His answer: A bit surprising –
“I’ll take it back, of course, since that’s your desire.
I can’t violate your free will (That’s God talking –
I won’t say I agree with his statement)
“But Earth is my planet and you’re on it
so you’re still under my jurisdiction here.

I’ll make you a deal, take it or leave it:
Work for me – do those things my own people
have forgotten I want done.  Simple things –
the kind of things my Son asked them to do once,
like caring for widows and orphans,
loving all life; exhibiting compassion.
Promise you will do that while you’re here
and I won’t trouble you, now, or ever.”

Funny thing, isn’t it? Now I have no soul
I can be all the good things I once thought
would never be possible for me.  And why?
Simply because now, it’s my idea, see?
I made a promise and I intend to keep it.

Now dear WW, YOU have made me think!
Perhaps, there is a satisfaction guaranteed/return policy?
If don't like the soul you got,
you simply return it, in the same
or as-close-to-the-condition-it-was received-in, no questions asked?
Hmmm. That might be a longer return line than Cingular's!

I opened this with a bit of apprhension, but thought .. oh give it a shot.  So, I did and I am so happy that I did.

Excellent. It is beyond what I thought it might be - and yes, you have me thinking.  Also, you gave me a gift that is attainable to achieve and has simple instructions that accompany it.

I like this a lot.

the soul is god,his word, his essence, his presence, life of eternity. Thats why so much chaos and deception,to steal those souls,to bound them, break the spirit so they cant rise above and guide the soul, heats gone cold, no love to light the way, eyes blinded so we cant become as one, the soul, so truth can shed the light, love can forgive the pain, so souls can gather and from their essence, youll see , a great chariot riding in as our father, our king, our lord, creator of all,  bring forth a new begining, and putting the unforgiving to an end, our souls illuminating the heavens  and all the universe for eternaty

My spirit will rise
above the sea~
There will be no drowning
of my soul or me~

Nice writing...still I don't understand your reasoning as to why you want to give your soul back to God...surely he wouldn't have given us a soul if He didn't think we needed one.
Where does he ask for our soul directly?  I read where he ask us to believe in his Son Jesus inorder to save our soul...
Romans 10:9-"That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him for the dead, you will be saved"...and in John 3:16 Jesus said to Nicodemus "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
These are just some of the scriptures that speak of salvation, of saving our soul.

Boy, you got me thinking here this morning Windwalker, and that's always a very good thing. I enjoyed the conversational aspects of this piece, as well as the thoughts to ponder on. Well done.

Best wishes,

Now my muse thinks along different lines, but I still believe in the higher self or the soul, it somehow keeps me sain I think and if that is what I think, for me it must be. Life would be lonely without my hope and inner voices that speak of heaven, of God, of the future, God will have to take this soul back my friend and when it comes back to him, I hope it will make him a better God, recharging his creation side and building on his hopes for man.

Thank you for sharing your work, much appreciated and got me thinking.
