afternoons were dirt roads
behind the wood fences
and out of town

meander kind of pathways
with watery promises beyond
where we couldn't go

with just our hold hands on
and fresh prints on windows
with their halfway rolled down

like someone was looking in
watching sin get slippery
and I said it was god

or a tree named joe
or maybe the clouds had hands
to keep the sun from watching

and we laughed without our shirts on

Enjoyed this babe.

a tree named joe
would always peek in the window
halfway down or not
that's what they do

love the way you worded this
can feel the dust and the heat

Smiles. Dirt roads have a way with people.

I am thinking of a hot, dusty dirt road that we took to the river (creek?  stream?) to swin on summer days.  Barefeet, laughing and trying to swim in a small pool that came to our waist.  Water ice cold and day so hot.

Thank you for bringing a memory to my mind.
