"I know you are, but what am I?" the juvenile battle cry heard on playgrounds everywhere and answered back by those who dare We put away our childish toys As we grow with grace and poise We learn the gift of precious tact So we aren't forever getting smacked Discipline and self control That's the way to learn and grow For everything, a time and place and respect another's personal space Show compassion. Don't throw tantrums. Calling names out of pure spite and hitting just are never right. Now I'm grown, all lessons learned. My badge of adulthood I have earned. I have amazing self control, with the punches I've learned to roll. I can ignore your bratty taunts, (even when I really want to kick you right square in the shins). Control of self will always win Now when you are baiting me, I am so very proud of me. I answer with maturity and raise my grown up battle cry, (stamp of foot, voice shrieking high) I know you are, but what am I?! |

Wow. Nice. I like this poem, I really like this poem. Great job. How old are you by the way? Just wondering since you said you that you're an adult now. Peace. Love. Forgiveness. |

You know, this is just right. I love how you worked through the poem -- and even made me smile. I understand you so well - you are almost like my mental twin in some ways. Hang in there -- and a kick now and then is good for the soul. I love you. A |

Gifted, amazingly enough, I'm 35 *laughs* This is written about a friend .. it seems any time we argue, we regress to children by the end of it, so I thought it fitting lol Sheli |

Ali *grins* I was just thinking today about how silly and immature he and I get while arguing -- kinda like me and you when we're just being playful *laughs* .. I'm not sure why we regress to like .. age 7 (that was such a good age, wasn't it?), but it works for us for some reason and everything ends up working out. Then, of course, I started getting the lines of this poem swirling around in my head and it gave me a good giggle, so I figured I'd share it ![]() I love you! Sheli By words the mind is winged |

Kit, I'm so glad to give you a laugh!! *grins* I've been giggling all morning over the situation that produced this poem lol my partner in childishness spent about 30 minutes today telling me how he's not speaking to me, which just brought on a new onslaught of giggles and may possibly bring about a new poem :-) RDB, Glad you enjoyed! *still giggling* Sheli ~I may grow old, but I refuse to grow up!~ |
