Red Flag Down

The countless ways
to find out things about others…

when we willingly leave our quiet steps
and fingerprints holding DNA
among the lines of a web
that encircles us in with deadly silence.

And so what if I go away
for two or three days,
not bothering with the USPO, making
requests to hold mail
but instead, take down fences,
rely on neighbors…
who don’t make use of electronic means…

what will they learn of me, us,
within three deliveries?

Will that junk mail reveal where I shop,
even though I never step foot inside
any overpriced WalMart for the well-to-do,
it’s just a mailing list, after all…
will they know I would just pitch stuff
of that sort?

What about the magazines addressed to me,
bearing the first, maiden, and last name,
which literally looks important by substance alone,
but is no more than another mailing list,
beckoning me to follow my dreams, if I but
pay them to read my work.

Does the glossy front cover of the
Smithsonian make them smile, and will
they wonder as to why we have a subscription?

They may place my parcels and correspondence
in a safe place within the four walls of
their own home, or maybe, they will leave
their own fingerprints on the books
and magazines that arrive, different from their own.

Will they know me better
when I return?

Or am I just a neighbor who bugged them
for a favor?

IF I were to house watch for you? that Smithsonian would be well dog-eared by the time you returned, and Walmart ads would line the trash basket.
Enjoy your vacation!

Dear Sissie

What an interesting thought.  Have mail, will know you.  I think a poem would be much better equiped for giving such, but then...to ask is how friendship can be born, especially when the answer's yes.

marvelous 'write'!...
[as is typical from this author]

I wanted to 'hi-lite' a favorite part...
but, I failed!...
(the whole thing is 'a favorite part'!)

long-sustained applause!!
