A Mask A mask of indifference, dismay, disregard, The genuine feelings are disguised. To be like the crowd we pretend all the time And don't face severe truth - we hide. A mask of despair, a mask of dismay, But those who are sorry for you Just wear a mask, and like you they all play, A mask leaves behind what is true. All life is a stage, but so differently we play - To lie is the greatest of skills. There are plenty of masks that we change every day To be what we've wanted to be. But there is no mask which can make someone love - A heart, keen, discerns all the lies. You hide from yourself, from the one who you are, But from the whole world you can't hide... |

"You hide from yourself, from the one who you are, But from the whole world you can't hide.." ~ Indeed! So we might as well be ourself without the pretenses! We only get caught out in the end, anyway! ![]() I enjoyed your poem! Giving you a warm, welcoming hug, EA |
