Desert Rose I had always thought... that on some grand-lucent night of impetuous starlight and articulate dreams, by serendipitous flashes of informed curiosity or cosmic revelation, I would distill the universe to find subtle ‘truths’ and final ‘answers’ for all the raging hopelessness; yet, they have simply vanished... (like shimmering echoes and incense chasing ‘blue-moon’ spirits past a quintessential sunset) just one step beyond my mind. My life is but a mystic poem... (lost in the perfect rhythm of silence or the blinding beauty of a ‘desert rose’) and an infinite entanglement of questions! [the 'desert rose' is, of course, a beautiful flower...but to a geologist, it is also a remarkable crystal, a rosette formation of the minerals gypsum and barite!] |

Re-reading this poem again after reading it a number of times before, I was surprised to see I had not posted a comment on it for you, Bruce. It is so lovely and true. Lines that call to me include: " ...vanished... (like shimmering echoes and incense chasing ‘blue-moon’ spirits past a quintessential sunset) just one step beyond my mind. My life is but a mystic poem... (lost in the perfect rhythm of silence or the blinding beauty of a ‘desert rose’) and an infinite entanglement of questions!" Thank you for posting this. |

Yes, a true rose has hiden, inner beauty, that the naked eye cannot see, but can only be seen with a pure heart! ~ARH J. M. Barrie, the playwright, may have said it best when he wrote, “God gave us memories so that we might have roses in December.” |
