Sally and Felix, they’re sitting on Richey Goldsmith’s stoop across from the settlement house on New Market Street, between Brown and Popular. Richey, he’s up at the Jumbo Theater, watching a movie with Butch and Wawa. Sally and Felix, they’re just sitting there, kind of minding their own business. Felix has his head resting in Sally’s lap. He’s having a bad day, his tongue lolling out of his mouth. A tomato car rolls up, and two policemen get out. They decide Felix looks a little suspicious, laying there on Sally’s lap with his tongue hanging out. They decide they had better pad him down. Felix starts to scream, he doesn’t know what’s going on at all. As I say, he’s having one of his bad days. Mrs. Goldsmith pops out of her door— hollers at the police. “Hey— what you mugs doing anyway? Can’t you see that child’s not right? Leave him alone.” The policemen, they don’t want to mess with Mrs. Goldsmith. Bobby |

Drauntz, Thanks for reading and the kind words. Sally and Felix are coming right along. The book should be done in a few years. Scarletbegonias, Thanks for the kind words. There are several other poems about Felix and Sally on this site. Just do a search for “Felix”. Bobby |
