Hands Claim Him Mine

I’ve waited lifetimes for this night.
I strike the candles, dim the lights
and whisper as he comes in sight,
“let’s do this right. Let’s do this right.”

His eyebrows arch, their question clear.
I can’t reply, nor do I dare.
It’s been too long since he’s been here;
I want him near. I want him near.

I long to rid him of his clothes
and sigh as I his chest expose.
What does he think? I dare suppose -
one never knows. One never knows.

I toy the edge of his tattoo,
hid by his clothes, just out of view;
a secret only known by few,
and I pursue. And I pursue.

My fingers deftly trace each line,
each curve and valley so divine
and whether touch be firm or fine;
hands claim him mine. Hands claim him mine.

The path that’s mapped by fingertips
is paved, in turn, by moistened lips
‘till we are dancing hip to hip
and then I slip. And then I slip,

“I love you.” [ Damn - What did I do?
- uncharted words. Dear God, we’re through ! ]
He stops. He smiles, [ Who ever knew?]
“ I love you too. I love you too.”

I am nothing special...and my name will soon be forgotten,but I've loved another with all my heart and soul,and to me,this has always been enough.~N.S

This is wonderful
I didn't breathe
I read it again
and again

And I smiled.

Alison,
Thanks for your beautiful comment. Yes, you may keep a copy for yourself I'm glad you enjoyed. This was a new type of poem that I was trying my hand at for the first time, it is called a Monotetra and was invented by another poet.

Ruth, this was wonderful - can you do some more?  I love this type of poetry - and of course as you know me, I had never heard of this anymore than your and Kit's da dum feet       I adored this part, as it sparked so many memories for me personally.
I toy the edge of his tattoo,
hid by his clothes, just out of view;
a secret only known by few,
and I pursue. And I pursue.

I have to mail this to Nan and Kit in case they miss this one!

Well I'm sure glad Sharon linked me to this, Ruth. It is absolutely wonderful.

The flow and rhythm sail smoothly through, from word to word, line to line. Beautifully composed, and really well thought out conceptually. Excellent work! Very much enjoyed.

Best wishes and hugs,
/Kit

The monotetra was designed for you, Ruth.
You worked it through very well.

It brought me to mind, though,
of a particular wedding day.

I had to go back to see how many years
have slipped by...

and I think I failed to send an anniversary
note in February?  I'm sure I thought of it,
though...

it's been a few bearish months.

Thanks for the memories.

My gosh Ruth, this was sheer lovliness....

and I remembered while I was reading, my first love...my oh my, you surely provoke fond and loving touches of those memories which are always there to enrich our lives...

thank you

Ruth...As always perfect poetry. The words made me feel like I watching an old romantic movie from the fifties or sixties. Enjoyed very much...Paul

This is an amazing piece, both in content, feeling and poetic style.

It's pieces of this nature that makes it worth my while being here, I can only hope to aspire to something this good....
