I am cold in a land where warmth has no visa, no diplomat boldly denying sanctuary while gently padding his investments, no surcease for the supplicants offering their souls up for surrender, no bonding for the borderlings running barefoot in arroyos lined with broken glass; this life was made by choice though I can not imagine choosing any other, and I have few regrets, debts gathered once held as markers of malevolence are forgiven not as philanthropy or generosity merely self indulgence, I want no contact with those souls again, not in this life nor in any other, they will have to seek redemption from the patience of lycanthropy without my benediction. When I was young I knew the answer to any question I was asked, any task for which I took money was guaranteed to pass any critical review and I earned more cash than I ever thought I could spend, and I knew beyond a doubt that my life would end swiftly, young and without regrets. Back then, I didn't know anyone could live this long in the life I chose when all the whys and wherefores told me to accept a plan for dying young, now with hindsight it really blows but I suppose everybody knows the greatest penalty for survival is living. ©2007 by icebox |

"now with hindsight it really blows but I suppose everybody knows the greatest penalty for survival is living." I'd applaud, but I'd much rather rattle the bars of my own cage, as homage. For what it is worth, lovie, I'm glad of the company. Thanks for sticking around anyway. |

"the patience of lycanthropy" Wow, you got me with this, Mr. C -- you have conjured a remarkable image which almost makes me gasp....I see the wolf holding back its insanity, awaiting the full moon to reap havoc. Have to admit, this is one poem, I'd like to discuss with you to make sure I fully understand your meaning in the first section. May a warm, balmy breeze befriend you tonight and muse up some pleasant memories. *hugs*....jo |
