In 1981 as an Air Traffic Controller (AC), I was the Senior Facility Watch Supervisor at NAF El Centro where the Blue Angles practiced. They were arrogant, better-than-you, swaggering asses, but they were MINE. Even with all the problems between the base and the Blues, myself and two other controllers received Letters of Appreciation from their squadron. ACs tend to become possessive about the pilots under their control. Like or dislike him or her, they belong to you. I don’t know any of the current Blue Angles, but the accident caused strong emotions. I knew previous ones and felt the loss. Thank you Abe. Commander Kevin Davis was a graduate of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. As I work for ERAU I also feel close to him. Will pass on your poem if okay with you. Martyjo |
