The Jonquils Bloomed Today The jonquils bloomed today. March’s flower, they hid, deep beneath the snow, awaiting the first warm breath of April. My garden lies in disarray; rose bushes in need of pruning and irises stagnant under mounds of crumpled oak leaves and a weathered Styrofoam cup that wintered storms tucked between the sedums and daylilies. I dug the jonquils out last fall, each and every single bulb I could find - tired of their undaunting promise of spring and jealous, I suppose, of their indestructible nature. I want to winter over; to lay dormant - unfazed by promises of spring’s rebirth and better days to come. I want to weather the storms tucked between mounds of thick patchwork quilts. I want to heal; to strengthen; to collect myself before I try to live once more. Let spring lie to everyone but me. But this morning I awake to a fresh warmth in the air and the heady scent of daffodils. The jonquils bloomed today. I am nothing special...and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me,this has always been enough.~N.S |

Wonderful poem, my friend.. I must admit - We cheated (visiting Michigan this week) - We went and bought dahlias and planted them in the deck planters - It is still spring, though. Love and hugs.. |

Nan...Michigan and no tulips? Hope you're having fun dear friend. I miss you. You know it has been 5 years now since we all met in April in Cape Cod. What an unforgettable time that was for me HUGS Ruth |

The warm sun brings forth the beauty of spring with it's tender caress....The vision you painted for me was not the death of winter but the birth of spring blossoms....*Big Hugs* |

Beautiful poem Ruth. 5 years! Wow, time travels doesn't it? I still remember our laundry hanging from the flag pole and you on the scavenger hunt is still as vivid today as it was then. Maybe we have to do that again soon. I sure miss you. |

This wasn't what I expected when I clicked on the title... but while you may surprise, you never disappoint. *S* These lines echo in my very cells... superb write!! |

Ruth, Dear, dear friend, I have missed you too. I haven't seen you around lately, but every time I do I get the most beautiful surprise. I have been "Back home" now for a month or so, and I am trying not to stray too far anymore. It is good to see you, dear friend. You warm my heart this day. ~Terry ~you reached inside, you touched my heart, |

This poem is as beautiful as the flowers it names. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |

What a wonderful analogy Ruth ... you had me feeling that I wanted to be tucked and safely hidden under the earth as well. It's been a loooong winter. Absolutely splendid writing! (and I can't believe it's been 5 years either! I'd do it again tomorrow if I could!) Best wishes, /Kit |
