Vineyard Dance Make me a crown of the leaves of the vine Come take my hand and dance Sing of the summer and sing of the wine Dripping from knot-twisted branch Come bathe ye in moonlight, come bathe ye in oil Come let go your trouble, and shake off your toil Come sing of the day and not of the morrow Come let us join hands and sink all our sorrow For living is ours, and ours is this eve To whirl, to laugh, and never to leave Bring me the flute, and bring me the drum Drink of the Lethe, forget all and come Cast off, cast off, the chains of the dead Before the grim Atropos severs your thread |

This is a wonderful poem. It makes me want to go dance around in my back yard (which is replete with grapevines and other succulent fruits.. ) Other than that, I find it to be a refreshing approach in metric creativity with an upbeat combination of iambic and anapestic meters... and a creative rhyme scheme as well.. Welcome to PiP.. and check your email for a special note.. |

I want to run into that vineyard barefoot and dance....I hear the flutes,pipers and lutes calling me! From one lover of Celtic music to another! |

Thanks everyone for your comments! I meant this to be a sort of "eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow you die" poem - an invitation to live each moment out to the very marrow of its' meaning, because we don't know if it will be our last. |

Just hoping this 'reply' post brings this 'write' back near the top of the 'P.I.P.' queue for awhile! [I added the 'detailed' reply to the 2nd. 'Vineyard' poem] |

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Cast off, cast off, the chains of the dead Before the grim Atropos severs your thread" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Eat, drink and be merry, tomorrow we die Fate can't be avoided however we try? But Atropos dodging is part of my game To catch me when dancing - I'd have to be lame! So bring on the wine and the women and song, With fire in your veins, you don't have to live long, For death cannot catch you, when you're having fun. Aurelian bring on your flute and your drum. Confusion will rain in our wild vinyard dance. So not even the Reaper is in with a chance! |
