(the final poem) I know your face by touch when it’s dark I know the profile of your sleeping face the sound of you sleeping ~ Rod McKuen Stanyan Street & Other Sorrows night tries to take you away never I will know your face in the dark long after you leave I will wake to the smell of you move of you inches from me see your profile reach for your face hear you murmur c’mere fit right here next to my heart I will crawl into your warm memory tell you about the man with flannel arms man I love with my soul man who drank coffee from white bone china with leftover roses man who caught me flying too close to folds of lavender time I will tell you about him because you will always be the only one who understands I will reach for your face feel your gone tears hear you whisper I know baby I miss that man too |
