Near golden sunsets

I chase it constantly,
this battle I cannot win,
unceasing sword against talon,
fiery breath against shield.
It crawls along my skin
this need for satisfaction,
to see it through to the end;
it burns through my veins.
I don the helm of deception,
ride anguish through fire,
and brandish a sword of futility.
I always come back to it,
fighting the dragon in my mind.
