Four Soldiers The sun reaches just above, Sweat drips off skin, A whisper of fire echoes through the wind, Slow grinding beneath the horse’s hooves, The horses are wearing down after the long trip, The last of them, The last man tied to a post on this wretched land, Whipped and beaten the dead body lies, A man, Jose Bends down on one kneel, Sloshing water into the dead man’s mouth, Pablo starts to stop him, I stop Pablo, Without words saying Let him go, The landowner dead with his house lit with flames, We punished him, Pablo holds the horses, While we handle the rest, The whisper of the blanket, I start to wrap him in, Sharp silver is pulled out, Replaced by the cutting of rope, Diego tries to free the body from the post, Ironic, no? Not a single man alive on this field, But today my son is born, This man with no name, No life, Nothing in this world, Is Free today by his death. |

I am really at a loss for words. I need to come back and read again and I will. I feel the power in this poem - I just am not sure that I understand it. The meaning is on the tip of my mind. A |

i agree with Alison. It is very intent and intriguing but I wonder just what is happening. Something very dramatic and emotional and life changing. Thanks for posting. Joyce |
