Love is
the twinkle in God's eye,
the pure clear song of a thrush.
The deep fragrance of a summer rose
and the spreading colour
of a maiden's blush.

Love can be
delicate as a bee's wing,
as soft as an angel's breath.
Or hot and heavy as a humid night,
filled with dark intensity
as sharp as sudden death.

Is love both
liberating and confining,
a loaded trap or sweet release?
What happens when the passion fades
and routine sets in--
does love then cease?

Or does love
continue to enrich,
quiter now and more refined?
A small, still centre at the heart of being,
a sacred sanctuary
for the troubled mind?

Who can know
the mysteries of love,
why Cupid's arrow finds the faltering heart?
All I know is, without such alchemy,
my world, my reason for existence,
would fall apart.
