Old Traditions We tramped along a snowy road. The trees released their heavy load In showers, thudding to the ground, Creating spume for yards around. The opalescent sky foretold A lull within this span of cold And soon a pale and distant sun Shed feeble light on everyone. It was enough to cheer our day And speed our feet along their way, To find a Christmas tree so grand, Then take it home to fill the stand And when we set it up inside, The child within us couldn't hide Grins of great appreciation. Advent of the celebration That Christmas brings to us each year, With old tradtions,we hold dear. Betty Lou Hebert |

Betty Lou, Merry Christmas. This was a tradition in my house. We would walk for miles on our property looking for the perfect tree. My Dad and all five of us kids would come home snowburned and excited that we all finally agreed. Mom would ooh and ah over how lovely it was and then we'd drink the hot chocolate she had made. It was a beautiful time and it lives inside me. Love, Alison |

Hi Alison: Thanks for reading and I enjoyed reading your Christmas tree memories. Mine are much the same as our family always went into the woods for our trees and had hot chocolate and clam chowder when we got home. My husband was too ill the last few years so our oldest son took over the tree hunt! Love and Merry Christmas Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |

nakdthoughts: Thanks for the nice compliment! I hadn't thought of it as a greeting card verse, but it's great that you did! Merry Christmas! Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |

Dear Joyce: When we lived in Nevada we used to go out in the hills and find a juniper tree with lots of blue berries on it and bring it home for Christmas. It was different, but some of them were beautiful just the same. Love and Merry Christmas. Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |

Well done, Betty Lou! Sometimes it is necessary to hold on to the old traditions. Why go out into the cold, look for the right sized tree, cut it down, cart it home, set it up and all that stuff when you can just go down to the department store and pick up an artificial one that doesn't require water, doesn't shed and you can use year after year?? TRADITION!! That's why. The benefits don't always come from the results, they come from the doing...excellent poem. (I hope Toerag doesn't see this reply, He's been watering his artificial tree for years 'cause I told him to ![]() |
