Edge of Tomorrow

Somewhere beyond insanity
Enmeshed in curious design
A maze there was, displayed because
Fragments of our world left time
To drift; flotsam
Grey debris scoured by sun and rain
Lissome ghosts of memory
Ensured that utter madness reigned
Intricately woven
Into the curves and turns
To linger there in quiet despair
Vanquished hopes and dreams now burn

Amorphous tyrant of the soul
Lassitude lay weeping
Bloodied crows found no repose
Ancient oaths need keeping
Within that maze the tides of rage
Ensured the rabid night
Unquestioned then the death of men
So delicate the sweet delight
Through red veins sipped as fingertips
Inveigled loose the binding
Of soul and man and so began
The riddles grim unwinding

For blood the start and worlds apart
Elation; pure as light
In-between in shadowed dreams
Dark custodians of night
Came to grips and licked their lips
Envisioning the plight
For tyrants ruled and only fools
Ran joyfully to join the fight

Heroes died as mothers cried
Forgotten wars unending
Filled the graves with those too brave
Whose morality, unbending
Could not contain or once refrain
From seeking bloody endings

Chaos birds lent the words
Screaming rage to lead them on
Psychotic lords never paused
In looking for beyond

Maze itself lay silent
Death heeds nor needs a sound
As outward bound the hungry hounds
Empowered by all the gore
Bayed the moon; bloodletting soon
Saliva drips from foaming jaws

Creations myths of hidden bliss
Reason for the chasing
Coldly black that final track
Up the center’s casing
Sermons and the visions
Offer such sweet security
Winsome death cared the less
