The Arrowhead

I found an arrowhead today,
While we were at a spring.
Now, how it makes me wonder.
This small and perfect thing.
What Indian sat long years ago
Upon these very sands
To shape this shiny, lethal point,
With brown and clever hands.
It lay so cool upon my palm.
It makes me feel a tie
With all the bands who hunted here,
Or made their camp nearby.
I dug a hole and put it in.
Nor did I leave a trace.
It was a treasure, but I felt
I'd trespassed on this place!

BettyLou~
I loved this one .. but you probably knew that !!

The reverence with which you honored the site is very touching~

I've walked a portion of The Trail of Tears and found history buried all along the way~
It's a most touching walk of the memories of my people~

My love to MY RONNIE~

It seems to have surfaced just long enough to inspire these lovely words.  Joyce

Dear Marge:

I have kept a few arrowheads from Nevada, and I believe I sent you one.  However, that particular arrowhead, for whatever reason, needed to stay right there!

It is fascinating to walk those old trails and camp spots and thik about what has happened there!

Thanks and Ron sends his love to you!

Love
Betty Lou

trillium, i enjoyed your poem and i believe that there is much that can be learned from the artifacts of past civilizations but "to each their own"...one must do what one must do.

Hi Trillium, Enjoyed your poem. I lived in Idaho as a child and can almost see the scene you describe.

I liked that! Also the wild purple trilliums that bloom in the river bottoms each spring.

clawmute:  Thanks for reading this poem. I call myself Trillium, because I love the flower and it grows profusely in our woods.
