What Season Is It? On the ocean-breezed side of the mountains We welcome each cool summer day, But there is a haze that shadows our days From forest fires not far away. On the other side of the mountains On the land-bound side of the state, Weather much more severe than it ever is here, Has truly been sizzling of late. In winter they battle the snow-falls And in summer, forest fires from the heat. While we on this side, cannot quite decide Whether summer or winter we greet. We carry our calendars with us To tell January from June. If we're freezing today, we won't run away, For it surely will warm up by noon. We've grown accustomed to weather That is seldom too hot or too cold. We suffer a lot if we're cold or too hot, So we'll stay ocean-breezed until old. By: Joyce (Where here in the Puget Sound, my thermometer says 65 degrees on this 16th day of August.) |

Dear Joyce: This poem made me lonesome for Seattle, where the weather is much as you describe, except for heavy fog in the winter. That I did not enjoy! A lovely poem and very descriptive. We are living with smoke these days from all the fires burning.....not all of them from natural causes, hard as it is to believe! Love Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |

it seems that weather everywhere is unusual, probably due to global warming. Thanks for sharing dear Joyce. the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost |

Joyce~ Well, your thermometer is a little bit higher than our August 90 + degrees, but oh, how I love the sunshine~ *giggling* at Peggers ... 'global warming' ? I'm scratching my head and trying to figure out how global warming drops the temperature~ ![]() I know ... there just must be some things that I don't understand~ Wonderful read, Joyce~ *Huglets* ![]() ~*Marge*~ ~*The sound of a kiss is not as strong as that of a cannon, but it's echo endures much longer*~ |

Nice poem, Joyce. I'm in northern Michigan and it was 39 last night and I refused to turn the furnace on in August. I could also smell the smoke from the fire in the UP last week. We lost 20,000 acres. love, Barb |

Hi everyone. Thanks for answering my posting. It's raining here today. We haven't had much rain since the first of July, so it is welcome. Hope it's raining on the fires in Eastern Washington.love, Joyce |

Your lines flow with appreciation. My late brother used to love to visit your neck of the woods whenever he could. He lived in northern CA. About 60 miles west of Chicago, our temperature's in the 60's today. That's highly unusual for this area in August. Next week we'll have company from southern CA, St. Louis, MO. and Chicago, so I pray we have good weather. Rae |

Dear Rae, Thanks for visiting our corner. Yes, that is quite cool for Chicago in August, I imagine. We had a good rain today and it is quite cool but we love our weather and are acclimated to it. I was raised in North Dakota so I know extreme weather. Love, Joyce |
