I didn't want to hurt you
didn't mean to do you wrong
the truth is there was no love
that I could give you all along

I tried to change my feelings
tried to fall in love with you
but theres nothing you could say
and nothing I could do

you smoked too much
knew your way through town
and the last thing I needed
was another man to bring me down

I didn't want to hurt you
I didn't mean to make you cry
but I was so damn tired
of living in a lie.
