I wrote this when sitting in a cemetery on a beautiful summer afternoon. It's a very rough draft. The trees stand guard As the breeze and the sun’s shadows listen in the melody tinkles by of lost voices carried by wind The hopeless look for angels To sing their sweet serenade Of iced tea and better days Scents of youth and mourning grass Tucked away in corners with memories long past Red flowers on the headstone Fire to light the flame A name Covered by ivy and an apathetic keeper Follow me, Beneath the canopy and past the fallen log Graves, here, decrepit as the deceased Fallen soldiers, young children, names swim in the heat Loved once, and now does love die? Stone faded and battered over time In naivety, they were thought to be Born immortal in stone Are we there yet now that we’ve forgotten? the answer, I'm afraid is misheard |
