Running I am running. I see a toddler, Cradled in her mother's arms, Being rocked, hugged, kissed, Looking up through tearful eyes, At her mother's face. Trying to fix her pain. Sad, prayerful, and sympathetic, She tries to make up for the baby that didn't come home. And I am running. I see a small child. Standing next to a hospital bed, Holding the hand of her sister. She tells herself, she's a big girl now. She is much too old to cry. Helpledss, worried, and uncertain, She wishes she were the one who was sick, The one lying in the hospital bed. And I am running. I see a small girl, Sitting on a hard, cold, chair, Desperately clutching at the thin fingers Of her dying grandmother. Her best friend. She refuses to accept the inevitable. Horrified, grieving, and unaccepting, She gently lays down two rolled up papers: A picture of them, and a letter to her Nanna. I see a girl, In a blue-flowered dress, Sitting on the playground... alone. Nobody is her friend. Confused, friendless, and alone, She tries not to let in the hurt, And she fails. And I am running. I see a young woman, Sobbing late at night, In her bed. She can't believe what just happened. She reads the message again. "I'm so sorry I have to do this." Hurt, betrayed, and heartbroken, She picks up her broken heart, And tries to fit the peices back together. And I am running. I can't run anymore. I am out of breath. I stop, just for a moment. And my past catches up to me. The memories hit hard. I am in agony: Weak, and torn. I am not strong enough. I can't take the hurt. And so, once again, I am running. As I run, A new kind of vission, Touches my eyes. I see a bequtiful woman, In a white flower dress, Walking through a white room, With a man that loves her too. As they pass through, Those great white doors, A little girl with a flower basket, Gently kisses her cheek. And she is happy, complete. I slow for a moment, Then continue my running. But now I run for a different reason. I am no longer running away. I am running forward, Towards my future. Finally, ready to embrace it. |

This poem is really good. It made me cry! I love how you put your words together and made them flow without any lyric or rhyme. Great job. Hope to see more soon. TJ No One Knew She Bled To Feel; To Remind Herself That She Was Real |

Thanks guys, I'm glad you liked it! Sorry it made you cry, but that's kind of the point. I think poetry is about making the readers feel what you did when you wrote it. Thanks for the comments! "I love you not because of who you are, but rather because of who I am around you." |
