This is a poem i wrote several years ago. I added a few verses, and changed around a few lines. I don't consider this poem done, and maybe i don't want it to ever be. CHAMELEON He copies someone's style because he does not know what to wear. He steals someone’s ideas because he doesn’t have anything to say. He cheats on his homework because he is terrified of standing out He lives a plagiarized existence Layer after layer he bundles himself up, Mortified someone will see his burnt flesh. After awhile, he forgets about his scars, And looks upon his jacket as if it were his skin. And every night he goes to the cave. And strips away his mask and chains. Naked to the harshness of himself And wrecked with fear and doubt. There, like a chameleon in a mirrored box, He cannot escape his reflection. And I realize in horror That even stripped down, with nowhere to hide. I still don’t know what to feel. |

I know exactly what this is talking about. Brilliant! "Be Strong and Always Remember what made you you." Earl |

I like it... the first stanza is nowhere near as good as the rest, but it does start it off and I can't think of a way to improve it right now. It's very good! |
