What can a day bring in living When there is no reward in striving And no response to the giving? What is left after the leaving of light Except the darkness of another night And the effort of the constant fight? Why do we continue on? There is a sense of loss of fate While we just exist and wait Wondering if we are just too late. Where is that cloud’s silver lining Hidden in dark rain beyond finding While all strings of life come unwinding? Why do we continue on? Gloom |

I don't normally post poems in other people's threads, but yours is so close to mine I thought you might enjoy ![]() STRING AND STARDUST A life is strung with simple string Atropos simply will complete; Some fibers burn a mighty sting, Some lingered stings become discreet. Some live a life of woe and dread; In dreaded woe they miss the throng. Some hoist a sail by slender thread Lachesis measured just as long. If Clotho spins the web of life, Why ponder o'er its spend, or span? Expend a fate that’s spent in strife, The end’s as sure by err or plan. Some lives are tread like trapeze acts With actions stepped in trepid stride. A man pines for the life he lacked, But what he lacked was not applied. Such things as sure as rain drop's fall, Will fall as sure as great men's reign. Are we not stardust one and all, that all is only wrought in vain? turtle ![]() |

Sometimes, we just need to put one foot in front of the other and not worry so much about where it lands. I enjoyed pondering this one, Professor, as well as 'turtle's' poetic reply. |

Sometimes you just have to go on, simply to go on. Enjoyed the poem. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |

You said what we all think at one time or another, Professor. Something to think about. Ida |

Hello Professor, It's nice to read something of yours once again! Good questions in your poem - it makes me think about how amazingly resilient people can be. |

Oh, Gloom, the silver lining is there, and diamond dewdrops shining in the sun - and so very much more - but we have to look for it, acknowledge it and be grateful for it, in order to appreciate it fully. Owl |
