The cold, gray clouds are rolling in, My face near the window pane— Remembering youth, Waiting for rain . . . January morn, So quiet, and moody blue, Thinking of all the promises— Were they just lies, to myself, and you? |

I have always been amazed how the soul searching pain of a poet brings out such sad beauty. Eric |

Ah, Eric, you speak with the heart and soul and the mind of a poet. It is something we can't explain. I've studied the masters, and they also affirm the wonder of this innate capacity for infusing words with passion, and, yes, especially of pain. Thanks for taking the time to read and offer your kind comments. art |

Very beautifully expressed melancholy, dear Arthur. They were not lies, surely, they were just what you believed in then ... every day is a new beginning, how great is that? Love, Margherita |

Never should we be sorry for following our heart. Well expressed lament. |

Promises ofttimes are made with good intentions, but life has a way of playing out differently that we planned, or hoped for ~ or promised. You certainly created the apt tone and setting to convey your reflective thoughts. Warm hugs, Linda |

Yo Art, This is good work. I tend to lie a lot, but never to my self. I always at least think I know the truth. Bobby |

Thanks Ida, were it not for those memories of youth, and other days gone by, things could get rather dull in this old tent in the wind! art |

Indeed, Margherita, we sometimes speak of lies in a rhetorical sense to sound them back, and to reassure ourselves things were as we felt. I always enjoy your insightful comments. art |

Thanks Bobby. I suspect you do know the truth, it comes out in your poetry about life and real people, and in your straightforward comments. art |

A lovely nostalgic, introspective and analytical follow up on the first one. Much enjoyed. Thinking is one of my favourite passtimes. Owl |
