SOLITUDE 1991 Can it be that to revel in moods of sun and wind and rain, To caress the velvet warmth of sunshine on my horse’s winter coat, To share opinions with him on matters of workaday importance, To walk in ecstasy through leafy forests bustling with little lives and little sounds, To wander through poetry books and piano music in the bowels of the night, I have to be alone? It seems I must choose between solitude and polystyrene conversations about false nails and BMW’s, while stringing my lips into plastic smiles that hurt my head. Oh Solitude cool, silent, soothing Solitude, forgive me for having doubted you so. Owl |

Solitude is dead-stone quiet. You're not alone. |

Bravo! Makes me think of Poet, Edward Hirsch, his admonition---steal away into the dead quiet of night, and in being alone, get in touch with yourself. A wonderful read! art |

Thanks, Art. I have never heard of Edward Hirsch, but will certainly see if I can find any of his poetry online somewhere. I like that bit you sorta quoted. Personally, I don't know if I have ever been out of touch with myself, whether in a crowd - or with one or two peope - or alone. However, I must admit that I really enjoy my own company because I appreciate who I am. Owl |

Yo dear Owl, There's nothing wrong with solitude. It's always a safe condition. Bobby |

"It seems I must choose between solitude and polystyrene conversations about false nails and BMW’s, while stringing my lips into plastic smiles that hurt my head." Precisely. |

Of course, your dear Flicka mitigated this sense of solitude, no doubt. Wonderfully written, dear Diana! I also feel well with myself, but even in solitude I am fully aware of being one with All there is, thus never truly alone. Love and hugs. Margherita |

Yes, Bobby, thank you. You are right. Safe can be good - is good. Thanks for your response, Peter. Yes, and solitude is a good choice, as you say . . . though sometimes a conversation - be it about whatever, can be good . . . sometimes. Owl |

Oh, I missed your response, Margherita. It must have come in while I was typing my last response. Yes, most certainly my beloved Flicka mitigated - in fact, negated - the feeling of being alone. I was referring to being without humans. "Being one with All there is, thus never truly alone" - I love that and that is exactly how I feel too. Sometimes, though, it would be nice to share that with someone who feels that sensitive intensity at the same level . . . but we can't have everything, can we? Owl |

Ooooohhhh this is damn good....Just wonderful wording. I really like this reality part.... It seems I must choose between solitude and polystyrene conversations about false nails and BMW’s, while stringing my lips into plastic smiles that hurt my head. Ah, precious solitude.....Sometimes it's such a gift. Well done! Eric |

To some, "solitude" is lonely isolation. Yet for others, it is 'soul'itude or perhaps 'sun'itude. In those quiet moments, Flicka is but a heartbeat away. A lovely write, Diana. Linda |

Thank you Eric. Yes it is. Thank you Linda. You always understand so well about (all sorts of other things too, but especially) Flicka . . . and this particular thought of yours is SO perfect. I am going to remember those words so that I can enjoy them over and over and over again - in those quiet moments, Flicka is only a heartbeat away . . . oh, my goodness, Linda! Owl |

This certainly puts a positive light on peace and quiet and things of import... and in such beauty of eloquence! I wanted to tag along on the nature walk... |

Thank you Klassy Lassy (great to see you back!) for reading and enjoying and your kind words. Peace and quiet are essential to my day. Yes, sure! You are welcome to come with me on a nature walk – but understand that we would talk very quietly (and not about the office or the concrete jungle or people who were nasty to us) otherwise we would miss out on seeing the birds and animals, and we’d stop from time to time to admire a miniscule insect . . . or a tiny flower . . . or a spiderweb with raindrops shining in the sun . . . or the way the sun shines through the canopy of forest leaves. Thanks Martie. I understand completely. Lindsay, it is – oh, it is. Thank you. Thank you chweetkavi. Sue, you will find that solitude isn’t a lonely place to be, if you are there too. Thanks, Steaven. Yes, many contrasts. Thanks for understanding the volumes. Owl |
