We Don’t Want to Stand In Your Way the grey spots in the yard attracted life that’s why they were dead. shadows cast by lonely suns melted upon the green hiding between blades except one solo shade alone and undisturbed, like a car without wheels cast by the young Adonis pumping a 5 pound weight like it was an Olympic tryout (his second day working out...shhh) Not double digit aged, he preened, squirmed, basking in his own sheen ruler thin with bones much larger than muscles until he asked the inevitable: Can you tell, now, if I'm bigger? I stood in his shadow or perhaps he stood in mine for just a minute. Not really knowing how to answer smiling I told the boy who wanted to be big Don't worry, son: you will never be smaller than you are today. 1/24/09 Jeff/ ShadowRider [This message has been edited by threadbear (01-31-2009 03:55 AM).] |

Hey, thanx, Eric! The poem turned out better on paper than I had it written in my head... Wasn't sure if I could get it to work right. Thanx for the 'couragement! Jeff |

Sea, Thank you for taking the time to nibble on this poem. Don't know for sure, but perhaps 'weights' are a man's 'makeup.' (or boy's) |

I think it's tough for a young man the same as it is for a young girl, waiting to develope it's a transformation for both. |

and you hit on exactly why the title of the poem is what it is. Encouragement and praise in the form of optimistic honesty is essential to developing self-esteem. Funny thing is, guys usually don't care about their appearance at all, until they discover girls that is! |

This one left me smiling! *S* Time never seems to go fast enough for them, does it? Or slowly enough for us... but you've captured one moment perfectly. *S* |

Smiling and nodding with understanding, as I read along but my smile almost cracked my face when I came to your brilliant closing lines! ~ "Don't worry, son: you will never be smaller than you are today." Linda |
