Mind boggling bed partners...
credit cards and loaded guns
in the same legislative package
ready to hit the President's desk
this Memorial Day.

The credit card reform bill
now has a loaded hitch hiker,
to allow unlocked loaded weapons
in National Parks.

Take your kids hiking this summer
if you don't mind staring down
a fully loaded weapon
on the nature trail.

I'm sure there will be some folks
who will find this a great idea.
Yippee, it's our right to carry weapons!
You have the right to speak your mind(lessness).

Just don't expect any sympathy from me
if you get shot while hiking
Yosemite, Yellowstone,
Big Sur, the Grand Canyon,
or Alaska's Denali,
where we supposedly nurture nature
with respect for Mother Earth
and fellow human beings.

Thank you for speaking out, dear Kacy. This really sounds absurd to my ears!

Where there are guns there is also the wish to use them ... and that is so scary, when we imagine (or remember!) the possible consequences.

Love,

Yo dear Kacy,

This is a cool poem.

It sounds like the right and the left have been making deals.

I believe the line item veto is still alive and well.

Love Bobby

oh Kacy...a sore subject for me..those little hitch hikers...

Like we are all idiots...and we pretty much prove the point b/c most don't read the fine print...

I lost 2 months of sick leave and a few thousand dollars because of a "hitch hiker" that got passed..

Thanks to each of you for your replies.
I was incensed when I heard this on the news.
Is Disneyland next on the list for gun toting?
No such legislation should be allowed to become a 'rider' and yet this game playing happens all too frequently.

Susan, that's terrible!

I work for local government... but every couple of years we spend countless hours reading and analyzing proposed state legislation, trying to make sure no little hitchhikers slip through unnoticed. It's hard because politicians are a determined lot and some of the most wretched "riders" are slipped into some of the most needed bills.

So... this is a touchy subject for me, even without this particular travesty. Well written, my friend! *S*

You always get your message across loud and clear,
and ever so poetically correct.

Good on ya, Kacy~

Kacy- I am a hunter, a weapon owner and activist for owner rights (although, I do not belong to "that" organization), and I think that allowing loaded weapons un a national park is one of the most absurd pieces of legislation that could have ever been sent forward. Hunting on national park lands is one of the most dangerous things I can think of. I think it was added by friends of the bank lobby in the attempt to kill the credit card bill.

BTW... the write itself was pretty great also.

But this one goes to eleven...

.

Some event, some killing, must have
happened to push a Democratically controlled
congress to pass this.  What was it and who
died?
