My people are your creeks and streams-- I wade in them without the Keds. And just like in your photographs their caustics are enlightening-- mesmerizing in the freeze of the moment of release captured in the memory of my cameraic lens. My eyes should bulge from fat as I am greedy, taking too much feed as I make my awkward leaps to paint them pretty as they bleed their colors in my 'poetry' primary in the music of movement as they flow... and you are wiser than you know-- I should wear the Keds, and add metal taps so they would know that I just might tread on their toes while I dance my wretched dance taking mental photographs of them in my head. You're beautiful, yanno. [This message has been edited by serenity blaze (05-17-2009 05:43 AM).] |

JM, JM, JM, ...smile. I love her so much, just as I love you. And I do respect her decision to turn her attention toward her family, and her self. I just wanted to honor her--all anyone has to do is search her name to discover how in-depth, how enthusiastic, and encouraging her replies were to us all. But read her poetry? And her heart beats in your hand. Thank you Helen... And, this was indeed inspired by Jan's incredible photography, and had I permission I'd have put a photo or a thousand of them here to prove my point. Janet is already "home". ![]() Both of you are fiercely strong independent women--my heroes. ![]() |

I'm sorry, Jan. You were right, and I was wrong. And thank you Helen, for helping me to acknowledge her. While I'm at it, I'd like to thank Michael and Linda Anderson, Christopher, Kamala, Doreen Peri, Dark Angel, Poet Devine, Nancy, Balladeer, Denise (who was the first to welcome me) and yes, even Ron (HE POSTED POETRY ONCE UPON A TIME) and yes, Sunshine, and Cpat Hair, and my yeti, my brian, aenimal, Alicat, Local Rebel, all the sues, Caroline, redheart angrybraids, and ultimately I want to thank spiked--for sending me here. These are just a few from the olden daze, and know that those who are no longer with us have thrice the gratitude. I just thought it might be nice to thank someone while they were still alive. These are the people who covered the concrete floors of the Piphalls. I owe much more grats to the middle members, and the newer members, so if your name is not in that roll call, I say, hit the archives. Janet Marie was the first one here, that made me tap on the screen, and tell others who were not yet online and understanding: "There's peeeeeeeeeeeople in there." (She was also the first one to remind me that there are "peeeeeeeeeeeeeople" out here, waiting for me.) I love you Jan. ![]() p.s. bsquirrel? where are you? |

Wonderful, dear Karen. I too love to go back sometimes into the archives and I am always happy when I read some of Janet Marie's posts. So intense and beautiful. And her pictures, wow. Those rivers for example really seem so close that one wants to enter the water. I regret the absence of her and of so many others too. I understand, sometimes we need to fully live in our real world, but this so called virtual world is an immense gift too, because our feelings are very much involved, we can't deny that. I express the wish that those who have "withdrawn" show up every now and then, that would be a sign of still caring. Enjoyed this greatly, dear Karen! Love and a wish for a few come-backs to celebrate ... Margherita ![]() |

Thank you, Margherita... Janet is, well, she is Jan, and anyone who knows her knows she's amazing and funny and sweet and a little bit salty too. *shaking my head* I am the luckiest girl in the world. (I get to read her poetry.) And she is all that and a river runs through her. ![]() But I guess I don't have to tell you. Sounds like you already know her. ![]() |

Karen...I do hope you realize that what JM is to you, you are to others. I do miss JM's photos and words but I understand the needs that she had to follow...and I respect her for all that she has done, is doing and assuredly will do. ![]() "too bad ignorance isn't painful" |

I knew from the title. *S* A slight misunderstanding between me and the stairs has me elevating a fractured foot even more colorful than Jan's creek photos... but your wonderful words have me smiling. *S* There's something inately beautiful when one poet honors another. When both are extremely talented, strong, wonderful women I greatly admire... well... it's pure pleasure for both eyes and heart. *S* You're BOTH beautiful. *S* And... for the record... *G* Jan's always right! Ka...Im sorry I didnt respond to this sooner, as you know I was on the road again...thank you for the poem...and thank you to Helen, Margherita, Susan and Ruth for your kindness, understanding and recognition. Sometimes priorities change our direction..like a leaf in the current... And KA? dont apologize for giving me a gift, regardless of ..... ..... (yaya) ykikyk You know I'm loving that first verse... you keep hugging the peeepul...I'll stick to huggin trees and if you ever need em...I'll lend ya my Keds. ![]() So? I was right? (even Ruth says so) lol So what did I win??? *winkie* and I love your new pic too thank you lovie. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rear View Retrospect (Poetic Devices) It doesn't matter how many miles driven ... I've yet to distance myself from the voices, the endless chattering of indifference and detachment. They ride, staring back at me over my shoulder, smirks on their faces underscore the irony of rear view mirrors. (From a lifetime ago) I recall your eyes smiling at me in that same mirror ... What was once inspiration has been traded for obligation, (penance due for roads previously taken.) Pretend poets choke on personal truth. (Not so) clever metaphors were just pretty words we used to disguise our long distance lies. (and I was never clever enough to rewrite the ending that was there from the beginning in your eyes.) Perhaps a better poet could write beyond the allusion. Now "distance" means "far removed from" ... more of a pedestrian than tourist, detoured by my own parading facade and the volumes of alibis that are your trademark. (Spend enough time searching for treason between the lines, duplicity will eventually reveal its intentions.) How many poets does it take to rewrite the truth? (as if cliche riddled rhymes could ever make this right) Simply stated ... we could never live up to the words. In rear view retrospect, its impossible that I could of written anything profound while typing completely blind. So instead I drive in circles, emotionally asleep at the wheel, turning up the radio, (deliberately) tuning out any distractions that might inspire me to change my direction. How many poets does it take to read a map? Never mind ... none of this matters now ... there's no need to turn every word into verse. What could I compose that would speak to the clarity of the ocean or the humility bestowed by the tides. The trees are no less majestic should I decline attempts to define, a river's fluent unfolding is no less impressive in my chosen silence. Consider this a confession from one who holds poetry sacred, always knowing mine (nor me) could ever come close. jm/09 (in lieu of a lame closing couplet) cue track 12: "Now the distance leads me farther on Though the reasons I once had are gone I keep thinking I'll find what I'm looking for In the sand beneath the dawn To sleep beside the road till the morning has come Where they know they will find me With my maps and my faith in the distance Moving farther on" ... jackson browne "I'm trying to spell what only the wind can explain" ~David Gray~ |

You do know I was highlighting you, like a freshman... until I found this: "there's no need to turn every word into verse." I am not worthy. But I love you. ![]() |

What was once inspiration has been traded for obligation, (penance due for roads previously taken.) Oh, dear wise one... I do know you're always right, but there's a caveat to that regarding your assessment of your own work and worth. *S* So I'll only argue one point... and you know exactly what that is... if you and yours never come close, then hitting the center of the bullseye is a complete miss. *S* Walking is almost beyond me right now so a happy dance is out of the question... but I'm (mentally) leaping for joy, just seeing you post. *S* |

Well now, this one got by me and what a shame. To honor the Mother Moth and not see it is inexcusable. Her retort was nothing short of brilliant, and truthful. quote: Well, let me tell you that if anyone could ever even come close, you would be the one! There is no need to turn every word into verse, because you are already "the poem." Your photos as well speak volumes. Nice to see you flowing down the page once more JM. Life has a way of getting us to change our habits and hangouts, and sometimes that is not such a bad thing ![]() To two of my favorite ladies, well done! |

What a pleasant stroll down poetic memory lane! Karen, you're amazing. JM is missed, but how fortunate we are for what she's left. God bless, Rae |

AM new to these forum climes - lots to learn -but I liked your poem - forthright and abstract - it coils its spring until whiplashing its point when I give it focus and thought. I'm unsure if it juddered a little in the last third - where the lines spin in syllable count and form - was it intentional? Perhaps I'm too tidy minded? Hazard |

Different places but they all look the same Dreams of faces in the streets devoured by names I'm in collision with every stone I ever threw And blind ambition where the flame turns blue Words dismantled hey and all the books unbound Conversations though we utter not a sound I heard a rumour I don’t know if it’s true That you’d meet me where the flame turns blue So I venture underneath the leaden sky See the freight train with its one fierce eye And then I listen as it tears the night into With a whistle and the flame turns blue In the morning I will sing In the morning I will sing Through the lemon trees the diamonds of light Break in splinters on the pages where I write That if I lost you I don’t know what I’d do Burn forever where the flame turns blue David Gray ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ its a moth anthem.... heh ![]() ![]() Happie-Birthday-lovie ![]() (and its poetic that you share a b-day with my darlin david...geminis rule...lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXlM85nw0mg&feature=related "I'm trying to spell what only the wind can explain" ~David Gray~ |

"where the flame turns blue" eh? *smile* I know that place...and yanno? I have this thing--my new machine over here, and it just dawned on me that after much searching, tests, and experiments, I have finally found a laptop that I don't know what to with... We've discussed our mutual masochistic habit of the annual self-audit on our birthdays, but honestly, just getting to this number feel enough like an achievement. And we are both too young to feel so old. So this year, I've decided to look forward instead of back--since neither of can turn our necks anyway, we might as well. ![]() heh--just as I typed that, "Yesterday" came on the radio. Oh well, I'm not half the man I used to be either. *laughing* I'm gonna clean my room today. I find stuff I've forgotten about when I do that--maybe I'll find my lost ambition? ![]() To steal a line from sy--"You are the candle on God's birthday cake." ![]() I love you. Thank you Jan, for...just being. |
