She is reported
to have died
in the bedroom,
on the right,
at the top of the stairs.

Frequently seen
near the window,
with face in hands,
weeping

Often seen,
climbing the stairway
and entering her
place of death

Declared to be
a residual haunting,
with no intelligence involved.

Just a scene,
imprinted
upon the fabric of time.

Ever lasting,
Ever looping.

Investigators were surprised
when they asked,

"Is there anyone here
who wishes to contact us?"

and a voice responded,

"Hello"

Interaction with
an intelligent entity
caused their hearts
to pound with excitement.

"Hello !", they shouted back.
"Are you there?"

"Of course I'm here...
where are you ?"

"Can you tell us how you died?"

There was only silence.

"Please, tell us how you died !"

"What?"

"Do you know that you are dead?"

The silence
was longer this time,
followed by the faint
sound of weeping.

Then...
only silence.

After further
background research,

the Investigators learned
that near the turn
of the twentieth century,
a woman had committed suicide
in that house,
in that room
to the right,
at the top of the stairs.

Reports said
that she had been
complaining
of hearing
troubling
voices.

And such is the circle. Held me a captive, as ever.(sorry, sage, this is so clever, I had to laugh. If you ever get to speak to her: tell her I'm sorry.)

You are among my favorite poets.  I really like this - you made me smile too, but it was nice to have a bit of humor (is that black humor?).  Good writing, Uriah.

You had me hooked from the first stanza. It's been said that suicides never leave, are allowed no peace, no here after. Your poem has left me wondering if that's not true. When a poem lingers in the reader's mind you can feel assured it's a great write. I applaud you poet.
