you were a school girl's wiggle foot in jeans
pretending you had your listen turned on
when someone's mouth was moving around

you said you were always thinking of me
and the possibilities that might occur
if we went to elsewhere for the weekend

and left our reasons outside on the railing
where the racoons might steal them
and ruin the excuses that were in our pockets

but would I mind you being nude that way
when your heart was mostly exposed
and there was nothing else between us

to keep us from being what I had prayed for

that ending struck me, Dark. Unanswered prayers are the best prayers indeed.
