Worry...
Sits on my shoulder
like a vulture,
ready to pick my bones,
should I let my guard down.

Worry...
Useless bird of prey,
just sitting there
in the back of my mind...
waiting.

Worry...
You can leave now.
I know you
for what you are...
A waste of precious time.

Oh Ida...

I have so much trouble with this one. (the topic, not your poem)

I don't think I can tell the difference between needless worry and foresight!!!

oy

This could be karen's personal psalm, yanno.

Nod.

Love you for this--and so much more.

Hi Karen, Believe me I know what you mean.
You know how in the old days how they used to sing loudly to drive away the evil spirits?
Well, I'm singing.

Worrying is an inbound talent of its own Ida, very few can differentiate the real ones and the needless. I just laugh off most of the needed ones too sometimes. Ignorance is bliss. Don’t let it take charge, its definitely a taste of time to worry. Don’t worry, be happy.

Ida, enjoyed the vulture metaphor.

Humming a well-known tune after reading Prasad's fine reply.

I love this! *S* That bird doesn't "shoo" off easily, does it? *S*

I love the responses, too... even if Prasad did get that song stuck in my head. LOL

Yo dear Ida,

This is a cute, and wise little poem.

You know what Bones and I say about worry--

"There ain't no money in it, so don't do it."

Yes, worry is indeed a waste of time. It doesn't change a thing, does it? I do quite a bit of worrying, myself.

Good post Ida. We sometimes find we were worrying too much about something that never happened and not enough about the things that did. Too late so it did not matter either way. We have to curb that impluse.

Worry...
You can leave now.
I know you
for what you are...
A waste of precious time.

I am very pleased to see you have the right idea in the last stanza. Life is far to short to worry, and I'm sure that women worry far more than men. I look at it this
way, whatever the problem is, if you can fix it, then there's no need to worry but if you can't fix it, then worrying about it won't help, so why worry. Cheer up dear lady
my thoughts are with you. Love.

We're never done telling others not to worry, but not much good at taking our own advice.
Enjoyed your poem and I'm glad you've got that old vulture under control. For 'a waste of precious time' it surely is.

So true

Worrying gave me a heart attack at 37 and ruined my first career.

PERFECT, dear Ida!

Just watched an interview yesterday evening with our Nobel prize winner Rita Levi-Montalcini, who celebrated in perfect health her 100th birthday ... among other things she said that "worry and fear" were totally absent in her life.

It's a learning process, I guess!

Love,

I just had this conversation with my husband today.

I think worry for me is a control issue.

Enjoyed this.

You sum it up wonderfully in your last lines.  It is hard not to feed that useless bird as you put it and one that I think most if not all of us can relate to.  Enjoyed much.

Ida - If you put up a bar to transfer sheep from one fencing to another, the first sheep will jump the bar. The second sheep will jump the bar. The third will also and so on and so on. Here's the irony. If you remove the bar, the following sheep will jump the bar even though it's not there. We do the same thing and jump bars that don't exist. We just call them "worry". Very nice work Ida. Enjoyed much. Namyh
