A leaf from a tree. A poem from my childhood series "Summers of Play".

Mango Showers

Before the dark horses began stampede,
Will the little soul’s master plan succeed?
Sat all morning rolling balls of scarp paper,
Science says stampede is caused by vapour.

Just before noon, he jumped the little wall,
Careful! Those greasy floors, Look out! Don’t fall,
Sheepishly he blocked the water outlet pipe,
He then walked off unnoticed without any hype.

Evening scene soon set in and it got real dark,
Stampede started off with a sound and spark,
Sweat pouring down from heavens above,
Thundering Typhoons! That’s no message of love.

The majestic earth below shook for a while,
Droplets got heavy as the horses gave a smile,
Winds picked up speed and waves got high,
The little pond on terrace reflected the sky.

Roll up your trousers! Let’s go out and play,
Forget those running nose, coughs are okay,
Bring out your paper boats and set them to sail,
Bring out your paper boats without fail.

And let us set those to sail….without fail…

Paper boats set 'to sail'
  on a windswept sea.
That's a great play setting
  to me!
And I love smiling horses.

An enjoyable read, and truly fits
your upbeat approach to life.

Yo Prasad,

This works well.  Kids do stuff like that everywhere.

I'm curious as to why the floors should be greasy.

Hi Steavenr,
Have you come across Tintin adventures by any chance, it’s my all time favorite. Thundering Typhoons many more are from those. Thank you for kind comments.

Hi Midnitesun,
So good to hear from you. Thank you for such lovely comments. Wonderful play setting indeed, I used to love playing in the mango showers with paper boats.

Hi Suthern,
Glad you liked these lines. Thank you for your kind comments.

Yo Bobby,
Yes, as a kid I was as naughty any kid would be. Every time it rained in the evening I used to block the water outlet the water stayed on the terrace for many days, fungus and algae started to grow on the floor which made it greasy and slippery.

Thank you all for such wonderful comments, really appreciate it. Good day everyone.

Prassad, "Mango Showers" Can I just go and eat me a Mango now - or perhaps, I should just consider a shower - in lots of mango juices? I know, whichever be my choice - it's going to be   really sweet. A lovely poem!! Booky1940.

Such wonderful memories you painted here for us to enjoy, dear Prasad. Water plays make little children happy, no doubt.

Beautifully rendered atmosphere.

Love,

Even though you and I grew up on opposite sides of the world, we did the same things! You just brought it all back to me with this delightful reminiscing of yours!

Prasad, I was a tad bit naughty as well! I once put elastic bands around my Grandma's kitchen sink water spray nozzle. When she turned on the tap, she got sprayed in the face! I laughed 'til I almost peed my panties! I can still see her shocked expression! ...I'm laughing again right now!

Love, laughs, and whatever 'floats your boat'!!!
