The last song thrush is caged, delivered by hypocrisy; saved from extinction. But who'll bring mud to line his nest? Not you hypocrisy, with hands so finely manicured. What song would he sing? He knows no cage melodies. Will you tell him spring is tommorrow? Injustice will be conquered? Oh yes, but I hear your silvery jingle; your sponge-lined pockets can't fool me. Look in the mirror. Do you see a crown of coins? Coins to be melted, cages crafted? I know the power of cages. They hang a warning above my sleep; rattle a dawn reminder; small, ornate cages hang from my guilt like earrings. I never look a cage in the eye. Above my thoughts, the old thrush spoke, he said: Can you give me glory days? Will I dine once more on stone-bashed snails? Will I, again, surf the hawthorn? Hypocrisy bowed its head in deepened hue. And the old thrush raised his throat; sang with more clarity, more feeling, than ever before. Then he was gone- and my cages with him. There isn't anything more beautiful than the bird songs of freedom. In younger days, I kept several cages, with canaries, parakeets, conures, finches...and an occasional neighborhood rescue bird. Now, I foster the outdoor habitats, so these creatures may be what they were meant to be. I enjoyed pondering this piece. |

Dear Osprey ~ a tale of a songbird ~ written by a bird of prey. Neither should ever be caged. They were born to fly unencumbered and free. "small, ornate cages hang from my guilt like earrings. I never look a cage in the eye." I believe that I understand this... Love & Bird Light, EA ![]() |

Every bird needs to fly in the free skies, few cages though that are in research centers for conservation and preserving endangered bird species are for a good cause. ![]() "Hardwork pays in the long run" |
