No Time for Lollygagging No time for lollygagging they walk with arms akimbo as they swing them to and fro No time for lollygagging triple stepping to a private beat No time to glance aside to see the violet there beside the tree, the violet wonders why they never stopped to peek, like others do as they pass by No time to listen to the chickadee. they have receivers in their ears. eyes straight ahead they continue and in so doing miss the fairy rings around the oak No time for lollygagging nor time to see small creatures that share the path they tread, the dandelions proud and tall, eyes straight they forge ahead no time for lollygagging On a mission as it were to shake those pounds, but oh how much they miss along the way. Better they swing their arms to the Hukilau and slow their steps with movements soft and smooth much better for our eyes and ears and as much in exercise. latearrival April 18 09 |

Yeppers, I can picture them in my mind's eye ~ and whenever they pass me by!!! I like to hear the sounds of nature as I'm walking ~ no headphones for me. I also don't wear blinders, as it were! I like to see those fairy rings around the old oak tree! Yeppers! On my workout walks, I take the time to smell the roses! Great write, late! I know what you're talking about! lol Giving you a warm hug and a broad smile, Linda the Lollygagger, |

Thanks Crital mass, Linda,Larry and Dixie. You know that I know I am not a poet, but the word "lollygagging" came to mind the other day and I was trying to think if my mother used it or someone else. I kinda liked the word as it came back to my ears and had to use it somehow. Thinking of Kacy and her lovely earth tone poetry, and feeling sorry for the tight toned people who miss it all. LOL. latearrival |

I've decided that I agree with you and Joni Mitchell-- "it's time to get ourselves back to The Garden." Your poem is a perfect accompaniement to a beautiful spring dear here. Love ya, late. Love ya early. *grin* |

Oh, how sad to miss the fairy ring and the violets and the dandelions and the magic of the day. I love to end my day going to see the geese who have flown in for the summer and I look for the first Sandhill Cranes. Then I go move on to spend time with the Reindeer and admire their babies. I dunno. I am a dawdler for sure. A |

Suthern,Serenity and Alison. Thanks for reading.I just love the little things in life. I find a fascination with the so called weeds. So when I see something in the ground I have to stop and look and poke and even dig it up and put it in my yard. I had a wild flower garden in Ct. of wild things I found in the woods. I cherished them as much as I did a beautiful Amarylis or Rose. But those that just appear are a special treat. SO I lollygag a lot and check out my wild flower book to see what it is I found. love ya all. late. |

Ida and Billie c. Thank you for stopping by. I have had lots of fun lollygagging with grandchildren over time. It is even sweeter to see natures presentations though their small eyes and huge appetites for seeing the wonders of nature. late |

LOL, I must have been born a lollygagger, same as you m'friend. I got caught years ago transplanting those pretty yellow flowers most spray to eliminate. Yes, the dent d'lion is a beautiful gift, in addition to a salad green, it makes both tea and wine. It is a shame when people step on or over and never see all the little gifts in right in front of them. Maybe those younguns especially will have time yet to smell wild mint, sage, clover...all yummy scents. |

Dear MartyYo, had to check "lollygagging" what a funny sound it has. Time to behold the beauty is never wasted no doubt. I can get totally lost doing this ... A very lovely and wise work! Love, Margherita |

Artic Wind,Kacy and Margherita. thank you for dropping by and for your nice words. I love the dandelions we have in my front yard; and the wild asters and wild blue primose. I love the tiny little blue and sometimes pink flowers, I think they are called blue eyed grass. I even transplant those to the borders. Flowers are flowers to me and if they are sturdy enough to pop up in my yard I tend to them. LOL,we think alike. [This message has been edited by latearrival (04-29-2009 09:29 AM).] |

no time for lollygagging On a mission as it were to shake those pounds, but oh how much they miss along the way. Dear Maureen that sounds a lot like the young people around here , they really don't know what they are missing, but you can't put an old head on young shoulders. enjoyed the post, love. LindsayP, Thank you. I still love to lollygag. I seem to do it all the time no matter where I am. My favorite job was site sitting for six months while a construction company was building a senior facility. It was in the woods near an old Quarry. I went in at five thirty and stayed until about seven thirty or eight the next morning when the workers came back to work. In the early evening I wanderd the site and picked up the bottles the workers tossed and I cashed in three to four dollars worth of deposits each day at a store that had a machine.Better than any slot machine Vegas has! You put in the bottles and received the nickle deposits back. I also walked the area and woods to find the wild flowers. Then looked them up in a book I had if it was new to me. The Bird's foot violet was my neatest find. I was able to transplant one or two of each kind. Took seeds when I could also. There is an old quarry there and the beautiful stone was used at the base of the Statue of Liberty in the New York Harbor.I really wanted to keep that job and follow the company around to the next site. But my husband was not agreeable to that. I always seemed to find the most interesting jobs, and I had time to Lolly gag. best to you, latearrival |

Loved the anecdotal info! Lollygagging suits you! Jo, the books arrived this afternoon. Thanks!!! I gardened a while in the drizzle/rain today, with one 'almost-chubby' robin following me everywhere I turned over a shovel full of grass (I'm replacing it with wildflower seeds!) and exposing tasty little grubs. |

Kacy,A gal after my own heart. And thank you Lindsay and Boshii2. I find enjoyment very easily, under a moss covered rock, up in the tree branches, around the corner near a tree; wherever. We just need our senses to seek out the beauty of this earth. Thanks all for reading and posting. It gives me great pleasure to exchange thoughts through these pages. latearrival |
