My brother and I at about nine and ten, along with a couple of adventurous friends, took a magic carpet ride on a cold, winter day when it was snowing outside. We dragged that big, cardboard box all the way up the hill, a hill about 200 feet high. And as silent, white snowflakes fluttered down from the sky, we all climbed on board to take a ride. It was quite a ride, I must say for as soon as we got under way that cardboard box left the ground and I swear it took flight. It must have been a fantastic sight and a feeling I've remembered since. I've always thought we'd be flying still if it hadn't been for that chain link fence. Ida Werrett |

Oh, oh! That chain-link fence was an abrupt and unceremonious ending to what started out as a magic carpet ride down from a snowy hilltop on a beautiful winter's day! Glad you lived to tell the story, dear Ida! Love you and the 'kodak snapshots' you so descriptively write of your life! Linda |

Yes, I remember lying on the ground, looking up at the grey sky with snowflakes falling on my face and thinking...OUCH! Ida [This message has been edited by Marchmadness (01-09-2009 02:10 PM).] |

Ida, this was delightful, except for the ouchy ending (not to the poem, but to the experience!)! Isn't life interesting and so like your poem? It is important to remember both the WOW and the OUCH, the rides and the price of the tickets, the elation and the stumbling blocks - or rather fences! They both make up what is us. Owl |

Oh my gosh! I bet that is a ride you would remember. But, it was fun while it lasted , huh. Your poems are always a joy to read. |

Ida - this brought back so many good memories. Yes, we did the same with a big cardboard box and came down that hill what seemed like 50 miles an hour. Wow, what a ride I remember... BC |

I just could hear all the screaming of joy and excitement, while you were airborne! ... well the fence probably had a protective function after all. I want to go sledding! I adored that. Thank you for the memories through your delightful poem. Love, Margherita |
