This story's bout a Grandpa and Grandson, I stood proud beside him when I was young, I'd try to act older than a little kid, Walkin and talkin just like he did. Well I never asked for nothin more than his love, And he'd put his arm around me an call me Bub, Under blue skys where white clouds sailed, He'd spin silk and magic into his tales. We had fishin poles secret holes and worms in pails, We scouted old wood roads huntin Whitetail, I heard campfire stories where I learned the truth, About the great war that took Grandpa's youth. He'd say to me, remember son, There's always someone out there givin out advice, Take care how you listen they might not have it right, And all the mighty warriors tellin people what to do, Are visions from the past where hell was set to rule. So pray for the time man won't kill his fellow man, Keep the faith for peace and stay close to the land. I'd sit there beamin by the campfire flame, While an old hoot owl was callin out his name, I'd think to myself we'll be doin this forever, Cause my Grandpa fought to make this world better. We strolled through Autumn leaves and summer grass, We talked of older times fillin up the past. We'd hike in the rain and watch shiny Otters playin, With every day the same like forever was there waitin. When the golden years ended the golden bowl collapsed, I was never ready and the hurt knocked me flat, And in the grief and pain I thought that I'd die, But the memory of his tender words kept my soul alive. Rep chorus I wrote this song about my Grandfather Thyrle Gerard Foster. |

Beyond superb...this is a keeper, Eric. You had a wonderful friend in him, a wise man who passed his wisdom forward to you. May his wisdom and memory remain vibrant well into the future. quote: |

That was great, makes me miss my grandpa. When you're young you don't know the right questions to ask, and when they are gone and you're older, you wish you could talk to them and ask what their life was really like. It brought back a lot of heartfelt memories for my grandpa, that is really awesome feeling to feel. Thank you. |

k_love_02 Thanks for the nice reply. I'm glad I was able to bring those precious memories back to you. Grandparents are really special people and kids pick up on that right away and become so attached. Those questions are answered in the legacy and the answers come to us after a while. Welcome to Passions I'm sure you'll enjoy it here. Eric |

Oh Eric, you made me tear up!!! My son and my dad are attached at the hip. My Dad had four sisters and three daughters, so when my son was born he laid claim quickly. My son was wearing 'coon hunting caps and had a baseball glove by the time he was two weeks old! The bonds of such relationships are tied with silver strings. Adored, Heather |

thank you for sharing this touching piece...this part brought me back to my grandfather: "I heard campfire stories where I learned the truth, About the great war that took Grandpa's youth" I often thought that those trenches on French soil laden with nerve gas accounted for the sometimes strange behavior that he showed. No one I knew was more at peace with the world than he was...thanks for making it easy to remember...I always thought it was amazing to hear about those participants I studied in school to be the center of his stories...like General Black Jack Pershing...amazing |

Hi Heather Yes, they are tied with silver strings. I don't blame your Dad and I know how thrilled he must be to have a grandson to do all those things with. Thanks for tearing up a little and I certainly appreciate the visit and the comments. Eric |

Hi Steavan I appreciate those comments and I know where you're coming from. Some of the things these men witnessed are not natural for human beings to witness so it stayed with them for the rest of their lives. However, it draws one closer to them especially when it's a relative. I'm glad this piece brought you back some precious memories too. Take care. Eric |
