Fog horns on the river
moan into the night.

Any child that wasn’t “river”
would be frightened half to death.

You know Bobby, I always found that sound peaceful. Something mystically stimulating about it.. Like the whistle blowing on a distant train.
Things of that nature. Don't know why but it just hits me that way and evokes deeper thinking.

Eric,

It no longer scares me.  I live about two blocks from the river.  It's rather loud.  If I heard it for the first time, and I was a child, I think it would be frightening.  Go head, call me a scarty-cat.

Ya know, Bobby, I have to agree with Eric. I can totally hear the fog horn and feel the breeze in my face as I stand by the river. I crave being around water at times. A river, ocean, pond, creek - doesn't matter what shape she's in. Seems to cleanse my soul.

Yo dear Angellea,

Fog horns don't scare me.  I don't mind fog horns.

I was talking about small children hearing one for the first time.  While I can't pretend to get into the mind of a little kid, I think they might be frightened if they heard it for the first time, and didn't have a parent or guardian about to tell them what it was.

But what do I know.

I know it would scare my oldest. :-) He has always been sensitive to loud sounds.

Thanks dear Angellea,

Hey, me too.  In particular those sharp loud noises.  Like gun shots.

Love Bobby

I loved the sound of the fog horn when I was at the Inlet on foggy days.  It is one of my favorite memories.  Now, I love the sound of the train whistle on ice fog winter days.

They are very similar.

Love this one, Bobby.

Yo Bobby,
I stay far away from the actual city, pin drop silence in the night. No problems here.

Thanks Prasad,

Well, to each his own.  I live in the actual city, and I go crazy if it's too quiet.

I never leave the city except to visit people.
